|Ages||Ages is a SEGA Genesis, SEGA 32X, and Sega CD emulator. Compare it to your favorite SEGA Genesis emulator and send your thoughts to the authors. This emulator has full sound, and has been built from scratch.|
|DGen||DGen has good sound, and runs well on a P2-233 and higher. DGen has pretty good compatability but is greatly out matched in quality by newer emulator such as Gens and Kega compatibility. It also supports logging of .GYM files with or without DAC logging.Norwegian Translation of DGen v1.21This version has no sound. It’s for people with P166s and slower computers who want to run DGEN.This is the freely available source code.German Translation of DGen v1.21Portuguese Translation|
|Genecyst||Genecyst was once the best Genesis emulator but is now sorely beaten by many others. The only point it its favour is its blazing speed which has become legendry. Well worth a download for some nostalgia.|
|Genem||GenEm has poor sound, speed and compatability. It’s just not worth it with much better emulators out there now.|
|Generator||Generator uses it’s own custom 68000 processor emulation which is designed for dynamic recompilation, and uses techniques from this such as block-marking, flag calculation removal, operand pre-calculation, endian pre-conversion etc. There are approximately 1600 C routines generated by the first stage of compilation to cope with the 67 instruction families. These routines are used as a ‘backup’ when dynamic recompilation isn’t supported on your platform or the recompiler doesn’t support a particular instruction. The CPU engine is by all accounts very fast, whatever the mode.|
|Generator32||This emulator was discontinued very early in development and runs VERY few games. Don’t bother with this.|
|Genesis Plus||This is a new emulator from Charles MacDonald, the author of SMS Plus. It is an open-source emulator, which supports sound, joysticks, and other fun stuff. Note: The Windows version is significantly less-featured than the DOS version, it doesn’t support joysticks or audio yet, and it only runs windowed on a 16-bit desktop.|
|Genital||Genital runs a decent amount of games if you have a PC with a Pentium processor or better. However, it’s now discontinued and never got sound support.|
|Gens||Gens has a high compatibility rate and good speed. It also has many nice features including a multi language menu, netplay with Kaillera, great SEGA-CD support and now 32x emulation too! The Genecyst of today. It’s either this or Kega.
The DOS version of Gens has a lower compatibility rate, less speed, and the sound only partially works. It’s discontinued.

It runs under Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP and requires DirectX 7.0 or above to be installed on your system. Gens32 is currently discontinued since the project evolved into Gens32 Surreal.

|HazeMD||A Sega Genesis/SegaCD/32x emulator based on that portion of the MAME project.|
|Kega||From the author of the amazing DOS Genesis emulators KGen98 comes a brand new Windows Genesis emulators, Kega. It runs under Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP, has support for Sega CD, and requires DirectX8 or above to run. The KGen of today. It’s either this or Gens.
Note that the Lazarus Special Edition is the latest version of Kega, which had to be developed from version 0.02 due to hardware failure. We provide v0.04b on the author’s request, in case Lazarus gives you problems.
|KGen||This is the predecessor of KGen98 and Kega. It’s not as good as either of them so you may want to skip this.KGen98 is basically a total rewrite of KGen. It’s similar to Genecyst but with slightly better compatability and accuracy. Plus, with 8-bit graphics and no VSync, it’s reported to be faster than Genecyst. Still, Gens and Kega are better so you may want to skip this too…|
|Megasis||Megasis is a good Genesis emulator, however the speed leaves a lot to be desired. It features proper emulation of some games that other emulators may fall short on (e.g. Warsong). It also has decent sound emulation. If you have a fairly fast computer, you might want to give it a try.Portuguese Translation|
|Regen||Very good Sega Genesis/MegaDrive emulator runs many games with or very close to 100% compatibility.
A Linux port is also available.

|VGEN||Virtual Genesis, or VGEN for short, is a decent Genesis emulator. It has both the PSG and YM2612 emulated, so it has pretty good sound support. It can run a decent number of games, but not as many as Gens or Kega. Some games are very glitched. This was also the first emulator with preliminary Sega CD support. You’ll need one of the Sega CD BIOS images to test it out. It can only show the bootup screen. It has been discontinued.|
|Xega||Xega requires DirectX 8.0. It has sound and plays commercial games. Good support for Sega CD and 32X|
|BRSMS||This is a Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator. It runs full speed on a 486 DX-66, and has sound emulated, including voice support. Most games are playable, although a few still do not work correctly. It even has serial cable support! It’s definitely worth a download for those with slow computers, as well as those who want a great SMS/GG emulator which does not cost any money.|
|Calypso||Here’s the newest of the SMS/GG emulators, and this one (while it doesn’t look like much now) has high hopes. The author wants it to become a multi-emulator for all Sega systems in existance. Currently, it has relatively low compatibility, some sound support, and uses the RAZE Z80 engine. Give it a try.|
|CHASMS||This fairly recent emulator, coded by the author of the Verge RPG-creation engine, is a promising new SMS/GG emulator with a GUI that resembles the old NESticle GUI. While it’s nowhere as good as MEKA yet, it has a number of features that MEKA doesn’t have, such as a Pro Action Replay cheat finder. This looks to be one of the better emulators available. Pick it up.|
|Cogwheel||A software emulator primarily for 8-bit Sega hardware, such as the Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear and SG-1000. The ColecoVision is also supported.
The project uses a modular design based around a Z80 core emulator class library. The rest of the Sega-specific emulation is implemented in another class library, and the user interface is implemented as a separate application. This would allow the main emulator to be easily adapted to different interfaces.
The code is written in C#3 (targetting .NET 2.0). The user interface uses Windows Forms, with SlimDX being used to render the graphical output to the form as quickly as possible.

|MasterGear||The DOS version of Mastergear was last updated over two years ago, and as such is nowhere near the performance level that the current Windows version is. It has a fair compatibility rate, decent sound, and runs full speed on today’s systems. There is a new version, 1.5. MasterGear is shareware, and there is no demo available for this version yet.|
|Masterlator||Masterlator is a Master System & Game Gear emulator project started from scratch in December 2001. Since it is written completely in ANSI C, it needs at least a Pentium II class PC to run smoothly, but it is highly portable across operating systems and processors.|
|MEKA||Zoop’s MEKA emulates the Sega Master System, GameGear, SG-1000 and SC-3000 (the last 2 are computers) and also emulates the Colecovision and the Othello Multivision (it’s staying in this section for now because SMS/GG is its primary function). It has a KILLER GUI, supports a very wide range of game, has sound support (you have to enable it), and supports many other ‘extras’ such as joystick support, lightgun emulation, save states, and so much more! I kid you not when I say this: MEKA is the SMS-GG emulator to end all SMS-GG emulators. It’s also loaded with hidden ‘easter eggs’! Download it now, you won’t be sorry!
MEKA has now been ported to Windows as MEKAW. MEKAW is far better for Windows NT/2000/XP users and works on Windows 9x/Me too.

|SegaG3||These two emulators are part of a series of japanese *fan98 emulators. They are both for Windows, with SMSFAN98 and GGFan Plus emulating the Sega Master System and GameGear respectively. They are both pretty fast, and should run full speed on a P133. They both have sound support, and I *think* the ability to log MIDIs is included. However, both are shareware, have directional controls disabled, and cost 2000 yen to register. I know nothing else about these emulators, anyone able to translate the documentation, please e-mail me.English documentation is available, courtesy of Issy.|
|SMaSher||This is a new Windows emulator by the same person who brought you the Genesis emulator, Xega. It is still in a relatively primitive state, but it looks promising.|
|SMS PlusSMS Plus/SDL||This is one of the newer Sega Master System/Game Gear emulators around. It runs full speed on any Pentium class machine, and has FM sound support. It has a lower compatibility rate than Massage, but it’s still worth checking out for anyone who wants an alternative to Massage. Code rewritten completely for version 0.9.

There are claims from many sides about the legality of it and many sides concerning simply the morality and ethics involved. It is a hacked version of GiriGiri.
