The Nintendo WII introduced true motion control and left Microsoft and Sony playing catch up and prompted the release of the Microsoft Kinect and Sony motion controllers for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 respectively. As significant hardware advancement had been achieved by generation 7 it also introduced several problems due to the way the cpu and graphics processors were soldered to the circuit board. High failure rates of both xbox 360’s (red ring of death) and Playstation 3’s were encountered( Yellow light of death). the problem was that the chips got that hot that they melted the solder underneath and seperated from the mainboard neccesiating repair. There are a number of fixes for these issues from the very dubious and potentially damaging practises of wrapping the consoles in a towel to force the chips to resolder to the board to the professional and only real solution to the issue or relowing or re-balling the cpu and gpu chips using specialist equipment. We have recently invested in re-balling and re-flowing stations to offer a repair service for these issues see console repair.
